Formosa Smart Energy and Poland’s SKB Group Forge Strategic Alliance Targeting Electric Buses and Energy Storage to Accelerate Expansion in the European New Energy Market

2025 / 07 / 02

Formosa Smart Energy Tech Corporation (FSET) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SKB Group, Poland, establishing a strategic partnership across five key areas: electric buses, EV charging and integrated energy storage systems, commercial and industrial energy storage, smart energy platforms, and strategic investment and industrial collaboration. This alliance symbolizes the convergence of Taiwan and Poland’s technological capabilities in the new energy sector and lays a solid foundation for jointly expanding into the European market.

The MOU was signed on July 1 during the Poland-Taiwan Economic Forum in Taipei by Ms. Sandy Wang, Chairperson of FSET, and Mr. Bartlomiej Dobosz, Co-owner of SKB Group. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Polish business leaders, government officials, and scholars, including Michał Jaros, Undersecretary of State at the Polish Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, Cyryl Kozaczewski, Head of the Polish Office in Taipei, and Agnieszka Sygitowicz, Chairperson of the Polish-Taiwan Chamber of Commerce—highlighting the significance both parties place on this cooperation.

Chairperson Sandy Wang emphasized that Formosa Smart Energy has long adopted a global vision to advance its new energy business. The company has previously exported battery modules for UPS systems to markets such as China, Southeast Asia, and North America. With the recent completion of its LFP cell factory in 2024, FSET's LFP cells and modules now feature high energy density, outstanding safety and stability, and the branding advantage of Taiwanese local manufacturing. The company continues to secure domestic orders for e-bus and energy storage systems while actively exploring international markets.

By partnering with SKB Group, FSET will offer integrated solutions including battery packs, modules, and storage systems. These will be combined with SKB’s expertise in electric bus systems and components, renewable power plant construction, and public project contracting. Together, the two companies aim to co-develop energy storage infrastructure and electric mobility solutions across Europe.

According to Mr. Stephen Liu, President of FSET, the current e-bus penetration rate in Polish cities is only about 5–7%, falling short of the national goal of 75% by 2030. Additionally, with over 60% of Poland’s electricity generation still reliant on coal, there is an urgent need for energy diversification and carbon reduction. As Poland rapidly deploys solar, wind, and biogas renewable energy projects, corresponding energy storage systems are essential for stabilizing power supply during peak demand periods.

FSET plans to deploy its proprietary energy storage solutions to enhance peak load management while extending its capabilities to charging infrastructure and transportation systems, supporting the broader low-carbon transition in Poland and other European markets.

With a 35-year legacy, SKB Group is one of Poland’s leading companies in steel structures, renewable energy, and chemical industries, specializing in heavy industrial construction, energy infrastructure, cast iron production, and large-scale logistics. Under the newly signed MOU, both parties will collaborate in five key areas, including the co-development of an electric bus platform, initiation of pilot projects and demo sites in Europe, and commercial deployment of smart EV charging systems with V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) capabilities.

In the energy storage sector, both sides will jointly design modular, scalable storage solutions suitable for residential, commercial, and industrial applications, integrate energy management platforms, and explore diverse business models. They will also develop AI-powered analytics tools to support customized infrastructure planning for clients.

Looking ahead, Formosa Group and SKB will leverage their combined strengths to explore joint investments in logistics, energy infrastructure, and advanced materials. Together, they aim to build a resilient supply chain and establish a strategic international alliance for the new energy industry across Asia and Europe.
