Formosa Smart Energy, China Motor Collaborate to Advance Low-Carbon Transportation

2025 / 10 / 29

Formosa Smart Energy has partnered with China Motor Corporation (CMC) to promote low-carbon transportation, achieving a major milestone in the localization of electric commercial vehicle batteries.

The company made a prominent showing at the 2025 Energy Taiwan Exhibition, unveiling a diverse range of new products that highlight its strength in driving localized new energy development through innovative technology. Featured products included the next-generation 44.5 kWh EV battery system, a 96V 50Ah lithium iron UPS battery module designed for AI data centers, liquid-cooled energy storage solutions, and ongoing R&D in solid-state batteries and battery recycling technologies. Together, these innovations underscore Formosa Smart Energy’s capabilities across low-carbon transportation, industrial and commercial energy storage, and the circular economy.

Formosa Smart Energy Chairperson Sandy Wang said the newly unveiled 44.5 kWh electric commercial vehicle battery system is fully manufactured at the company’s Changbin plant, from battery cells to modules. The system offers high energy density, long cycle life, and advanced safety features. It has passed rigorous multi-directional vibration testing to ensure structural stability during transport and operation. Advanced thermal management simulations show efficient heat control, reducing cooling system load and maintaining safe temperatures even under fast-charging conditions -- demonstrating the system’s superior thermal stability and reliability.

Wang noted that the battery system is set for mass production, marking a key step for Taiwan’s domestic EV battery supply chain. CMC will be the first automaker to adopt the 44.5 kWh battery system, a collaboration Wang described as an important benchmark for Taiwan’s low-carbon transition. She expressed gratitude to CMC for its trust and partnership in advancing locally developed electric transport solutions.

CMC has been actively expanding its green transportation initiatives, reinforcing sustainability commitments, and setting new standards for the logistics industry. The company said the partnership highlights the reliability and scalability of Taiwan-made batteries, further strengthening the long-term goal of advancing low-carbon transportation and sustainable development shared by both parties.

Formosa Smart Energy President Stephen Liu highlighted the 96V 50Ah lithium iron UPS battery system displayed at the exhibition, noting its high voltage, high power, and safety performance – designed to meet the heavy load demands of AI computing. The system is expected to enter the U.S. market as a key component for reliable AI infrastructure power supply. The company also showcased its liquid-cooled energy storage solution series, covering modules, cabinets, and containers, reflecting its expertise in battery cell manufacturing and system integration. Beyond EVs and energy storage, Formosa Smart Energy is actively developing solid-state batteries, battery recycling solutions, and microalgae-based carbon capture technologies, aligning with global energy transition and circular economy trends.

The company plans to continue collaborating with CMC and other partners to build a sustainable new energy ecosystem for Taiwan, driving innovation, leading with technology, and supporting industries toward a low-carbon, net-zero future.
